I can smell a strong burnt rubber odour coming from the passenger side REAR tire area. I sprayed that tire and that area with some water and a lot of steam/smoke arose. I then sprayed the other three tires and there was no steam/smoke. Any ideas on what this could be? It’s a 2006 Lincoln Town Car.

Hi, Noob here. My car recently has begun to smell of burnt rubber, particularly when I am stopped with the engine running (I assume it also smells when I’m driving, I just can’t smell it because it is in motion). To complicate matters, I had the oil changed about a month ago, but my oil pressure gauge only works intermittently. No engine warning light is on, and it seems to be running.
The smell is stronger and more pungent than the typical hot tire smell. Would could the source be? Car is in great shape, we have a great mechanic – honest, sharp and a good value, but before doing the rounds of mechanic, tire rotation place and alignment place (all 3 different locations), would be nice to be able to narrow it down.
If you can smell this smell, stop the car and let it cool for a couple of hours. When you start the car up again, the smell should be gone. Conclusion. No it’s definitely not normal, your brakes are dragging or rubbing against the rotor causing excessive heat to travel to the wheels and then the tires. The calipers are seized up and won’t release all the way. Your suppose to flush all the old bra…

Hello, I have 1994 bmw 318i sedan and recently after I drive 3 or 4 miles and stop the car, I am getting the burning smell from the front wheel. I don’t notice any sort of brake problems such as dragging etc…brake pads are perfectly fine, and the disc and rotors seems to be fine as well. That’s most likely the smell of oil burning. You mentioned that there is a small leak around the belt drive, so that may be the culprit. Burning oil can smell like burnt rubber. Get the car checked out by your usual repairer.
